I have neither the courage nor the foolishness to share details of my weight issues.... but I wonder if weekly posts of changes, successes and failures might prompt MORE successes..... My concept: instead of a diet and exercise program based on deprivation and hard work, I will endeavor to ADD to my existing diet..... hoping that these additions might make some bad habits extinct.... and work exercise into my schedule in a thoughtful, low-stress way... therefore this is week one.
WEEK ONE:
Today I took a ten minute walk.... I need to start slowly, and this seemed the most reasonable: a commitment to walking ten minutes at a time.... once a day... twice if i choose, but NO PRESSURE to walk twice. I will do yoga stretches when I feel the urge, choosing those that I enjoy.... this likely means tree poses, lunges.... nothing on the floor to compromise the fat lady's knees! I will also squeeze half a lemon and a slice of ginger into 32 ounces of water, to sip through the day. I understand that MORE water intake is a good thing.... and the lemon and ginger are likely to have anti-inflammatory properties that a type 2 diabetic can benefit from. These two: the walk and the beverage, are my changes for week one. The beverage is NOT negotiable... but the walk can be done five, six or seven days of the week, using the treadmill if the weather is poor. One or two days off are acceptable.... more than that are not. Ten minutes is NOT a huge commitment, and will be BUILT upon in future weeks. I welcome anyone to join me in this experiment in self-improvement... suggestions are welcome, encouragement delightful, and companionship in the journey both hoped for and met with both gratitude and joy!
